Secured loans offer more security to the lender as should you be unable to make your loan repayments and fall into arrears, then as a final act the lender can legally take possession of your house, they could then re-sell in in order to recoup the debt they are owed. When you get a secured loan, you will be asked to sign a security agreement, this gives the lender the right to seize the property or assets that you have stated as collateral.

A Secured Loan usually comes with better interest rates, but you should always remember that your house is at risk if you continuously fail to make the repayments on time and fall into arrears.

The amount you can borrow with a secured loan depends on the amount of equity in your property. Equity is the market value of your property minus any outstanding mortgage or loans you have on it.
People who have poor credit ratings will find a secured loans are made more easily accessible to them than unsecured loans, this is because the lender is taking a lot less risk themselves with this type of finance.
